The very first book I remember falling in love with was Mandy and the Secret Tunnel. I received the book when I was in the 4th grade. It was a birthday present — one that I still have to this day! I often think about the mother that grabbed the book as a quick thought because her son had a birthday party to attend. She’ll never know what kind of an impact she had in my life.
Before Mandy, I read books like Nate the Great, Amelie Bedelia, and a number of other children’s books but Mandy is what really hooked me.
I’ve never met anyone else who’s read the Mandy series so here it is in a nut shell — Mandy is a Christian Nancy Drew. Yep, that about sums it up.
I’ve read many of the Nancy Drew books — I even own a few early copies — but Mandy holds a special place in my heart. Because of her, I consume mystery books like water. Actually, I probably consume them better than water because I’m terrible at drinking water. 🙂
Today is Valentine’s Day. The day of loooove. ❤
Sure, I could share with you some sappy story about my husband or I could tell you about how much I love this product or that one. But I don’t want to. Today, I want to share the love. I want to tell you about five things I love that don’t often get the attention they deserve.
1.That kid’s mom
I don’t think I ever met his mom but his name was Seth. I remember he was very excited because I showed interest in his gift. Now, whenever I open a new book, I think of her and I picture Seth in 4th grade with his excited face sitting on my parent’s living room floor.
Do you like reading? Who introduced you to the magical journeys you could take with a book? When’s the last time you sent a little love their way (even if they may not know it)?
2.The Unfollow Option on Facebook
Shh! Don’t tell all my “Friends” that I’ve unfollowed most of them. Actually, I don’t think I really care if they know. I’m not ashamed of the fact that I disagree with much of their far reaching political views, anti-vacc propaganda, or hate-filled posts.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. They can post what they want, when they want. But that doesn’t mean I have to consume it all the time. Thank goodness for that unfollow option!
Sometimes the number of options available to me makes me feel overwhelmed and stressed. I worry about making the wrong choice and having to face terrible consequences.
However, when I put things into a broader perspective, I realize how blessed I am to have choices, options, and the stresses of having to decide. There are people all over the world who are trapped by circumstance but I am not one of them.
On this day of love, I want to quit hating my options and show some love to the fact that I’m free to make choices! Woo hoo!
I know I went from super serious to dry shampoo but ’tis the way my brain works. 🙂
Since starting with VIPKid more than six months ago, I realize how often I didn’t do anything with my hair unless we were going somewhere. I would shower and immediately pull my hair into a messy bun. It would sit for a day or two until I showered again.
Now that I’m seeing people (even little ones) every day, I think about my hair more frequently. Dry shampoo allows me to skip a daily shower and still feel presentable.
Without you, I would be writing into the empty void. When you like, respond, or follow, I am spurred on with new thoughts. I think about what it was that you responded to and I want to do more. Thank you for joining me in this little corner of the interwebs. Thanks for letting me use words like interwebs. 🙂 Haha!
I love that you’re here. I appreciate you and the time that you give to me and these words I share. I’m sending you a little more love and a few extra prayers today! Thank you for being here.
