5 Powerful Verses to Combat Comparison

Theodore Roosevelt once said, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” While we know this to be true, we still engage.

There are plenty of studies that show prolonged use of social media actually causes our personal life satisfaction to decline. You can go ahead and read them all if you really want to but the chances are that you already have first hand experience. However, you’re not going to quit social media. And neither am I. For a very simple reason…

Comparison doesn’t just happen on Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat. It happens in real life too. *Gasp!* That was a startling revelation, right? Ha! Yeah, right!

Maybe it’s the stress of the holidays or maybe it’s just because I know so many Martha Stewart types but I find I’m more prone to comparison this time of the year. I find that I’m grateful when the holidays are over and I can get back to being myself. As if I can’t be myself during the holidays.

Unfortunately, what is supposed to be a joyous time rarely is. I squander away my joy by comparing myself to everyone else’s best foot forward. If you can relate, here are 5 verses to hold onto — not only to keep your identity firmly grounded but also to keep your holiday joy alive.

  1. The Creator of Heaven and Earth made you wonderful! I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
  2. If all else changes, He still love you.For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you
  3. Nothing you do (or don’t do) could change His overwhelming love for you.For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able
  4. You belong to Him & He is yours.Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
  5. He is for you. What then shall we say to these things_ If God is for us, who can be[i] against us_.png

And when you start to forget how awesome you are or you begin to surrender your joy, go to the place where joy is found with this bonus 6th verse. 🙂 So, let’s straighten our crowns, be ourselves, and remember to Whom we belong.
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy
